Books

Thousand Words by Jennifer Brown: This book deals with a problem that my generation never had to such a degree. What happens when you take a nude selfie for your boyfriend, but once you break up it goes viral? Another YA book that deals with who you are and how you let your peers define you. Very interesting that in some states in the US not only is the forwarding a crime but also taking the picture and sending it in the first place is illegal when you are a minor. The girl had to do community service for a while. Seems very harsh considering the humiliation that everyone saw her naked already.

The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes: I loved her book “You before me” and therefore I also tried a couple of other books from this author. It was interesting to note that she returned with this book to her usual pattern. Part of the book in the present, part in the past. Only this time it worked even less. I found the story of the past interesting, especially the occupation of part of France through Germans during WWI. But the story in the present was just not believable and it gets boring to always have two parallel stories. I think I will pass on her other books.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield: This is a ghost story without ghost. It’s a story about a family which draws you in and makes you go on reading at every possible minute. You root for the main characters and keep on guessing who’s who. But once you close the book the story is gone, the characters don’t stay with you. So maybe it’s a ghost story after all.

Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns by Lauren Weisberger: The sequel is a different story than book #1. Although Miranda Priestly features largely again it is more of a chick lit. The ups and downs in Andrea’s love life and career. I finished the book in under a day while on the beach. Perfect vacation read!
