The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey (Part 2 of the 5th Wave Series): Still fast-paced and nerve-racking but not as strong as the first one in the series. I especially didn’t like that the last third of the book was given over to one character entirely and nothing was written about all the others. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t devour it in one go though. I guess it means that I have to wait for book three.
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn: Although “Gone Girl” was not a great read, it had its moments. So when I got my hands on this book, I figured why not read it before it was made into a movie too. And what a great book. I liked it a lot better than “Gone Girl”, it was fast paced and had believable characters and a story that kept me enthralled. Plus the ending was unexpected.
Blasmusikpop oder Wie die Wissenschaft in die Berge kam by Vea Kaiser: Another book club read, this time from an Austrian first-time writer. Always great when one can support a local talent. This regional novel about a little village in the Austrian Alps is overall a fast read and has some funny moments. The described picture of the village and the people was so vivid that the recognition factor was inevitable. Most of it was also true for the townspeople.
The Woman Who Stole My Life by Marian Keyes: Finally a chick lit again. I have not read one in a very long time although I get a steady supply of new ones (thanks Evi!). I finished the book within a week and even stopped watching TV for an evening. It’s so nice to read a well written book that is fast-paced and has a certain entertainment factor. Also with Marian Keyes there is always something serious in her books, loved it!
